Hyundai to transform Plaza into world’s largest indoor dealership

CARMONA josec@caribbeanbusinesspr.com Edition: October 28, 2010 | Volume: 38 | No: 42 Korean automaker exhibiting 56 units throughout mall as 12 dealerships look to sell nearly 600 vehicles Nov. 1-7 Starting next week, Plaza Las Américas shopping mall in Hato Rey will hold its first indoor auto sales event, “Hyundai en Plaza, el evento” (Hyundai at Plaza, the Event), where Korean automaker Hyundai will showcase 56 units of its model lineup throughout the mall’s ground floor. Hyundai de Puerto Rico President Víctor Quintero said 12 of the automaker’s local dealerships will each have their own showroom set up at different locations inside the mall, converting Plaza Las Américas into the world’s largest auto dealership Nov. 1-7.. “This event presents Plaza as a point of sale for autos with the first-ever and  possibly the world’s largest indoor auto sales fair,” Quintero told CARIBBEAN BUSINESS. “Some people are already talking about establishing a new Guinness World Record for an indoor auto sales event.” Plaza receives approximately 70,000 visitors a day, meaning at least some 500,000 people will be able to enjoy the free auto sales fair during the week-long event. The Hyundai de Puerto Rico president said the event will be “very corporate, very Hyundai,” with the local distributor planning to sell between 500 and 600 new units during the seven days. There will be a designated area in one of the parking structures where auto buyers can test drive the cars, and there also will be a prep/wash area for when a unit is sold. Quintero said there will be a rotating inventory of 100 units at all times, which will be replenished as units are sold. In addition to dealership staff, there will be representatives from BBVA Auto, Reliable Auto, Popular Auto and FirstAuto, and from auto insurance companies as well. In all, there will be at least 150 people on staff at the event, he said. “Without a doubt, this is the largest event ever held by a single automotive brand in Puerto Rico. As an added attraction, we will give away iPads during a raffle,” Quintero said. “The public will have the opportunity to buy the Hyundai vehicle of their choice in their favorite color at specially discounted prices.” The local Hyundai distributor expects a busy year next year, as the Korean automaker is slated to launch six all-new or redesigned models over the next two years in addition to the introduction earlier this year of the all-new 2011 Sonata midsize sedan and the Tucson sport utility vehicle
